In celebration of the official start of their winter sports season this weekend, we are Travelling From Home to the beautiful Jungfrau Ski Region of Switzerland.
With two valleys and the region’s world famous three peaks providing jaw-dropping views wherever you look, Jungfrau is a winter wonderland – offering skiers and snowboarders everything their hearts desire, from perfectly prepared pistes with gentle slopes, to steep drops, snow and fun parks, racing tracks and powder parties.
Covering an area of 824 square kilometres, the Jungfrau-Aletsch UNESCO-World Heritage site covers nearly all of the Bernese High Alps, but one of our favourite resorts to visit is Grindelwald which pairs its epic skiing and scenery with a thriving après ski scene.

EAT. STAY. PLAY – Grindelwald
EAT – Piz Gloria
The panoramic revolving restaurant at the summit of the Schilthorn mountain (2976 meters above sea level) was featured in the 1969 James Bond movie On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. Making its full rotation in 45 minutes, you can gaze out over 200 mountain peaks as you enjoy treats from the brunch and dessert buffet, or the à la carte restaurant which offers a selection of Swiss and Mediterranean dishes. At the bar you can treat yourself to a martini à la James Bond: Shaken, not stirred of course.
STAY – Hotel Belvedere Grindelwald
If you want to experience authentic and traditional Swiss Alpine hospitality, one of our top recommendations in Grindelwald is the Hotel Belvedere. Situated in a quiet location, overlooking the stunning Lauterbrunnen Valley and just a five minute walk from the village centre, the Belvedere has a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere and is a wonderful choice for families. There is a spacious lounge with open fireplace, a cosy bar and beautiful dining room, a children’s playroom, and a veranda boasting panoramic views. A stay includes breakfast each morning to fuel up before hitting the slopes, and a buffet style dinner every evening with classic Swiss specialties and international cuisine.
PLAY – Ride the world’s longest sled run!
For a quaint little village, you might not expect Grindelwald to be home to Europe’s best sledding fun, including the world’s longest sled ride at 12.5km. Known as the Big Pintenfritz, the trail is specially carved and groomed for sleds. There are steep fast descents, flat areas, open spaces, narrow passages, banking turns and some other surprises along the way. It’s HEAPS of fun!
